Careers at Guardian

Defend six thousand organisations before lunch

Guardian is 1,900 people across 24 offices and nine time zones, building the platform that contains the median intrusion in 8.4 seconds. If you have ever been the person paged at 03:00, you already understand the problem we are solving.

How we work

Written-first, remote-fluent, allergic to heroics

Security companies are unusually prone to a bad habit: rewarding the person who stayed up all night rather than fixing the system that required it. Guardian deliberately does the opposite.

Every team publishes a written operating charter. Every significant decision starts as a document that people read before they discuss it, so influence does not depend on which time zone you woke up in. Every on-call rotation is paid, capped and followed by compensating time off. Every incident — ours or a customer's — ends in a blameless review whose action items have named owners and due dates, published company-wide.

  • Documents, not meetings. Guardian runs an average of 4.1 recurring meetings per person per week, and we track it.
  • On-call is compensated and capped. Maximum one week in six, with a mandatory recovery day after any P1 page.
  • Everyone rotates through Guardian Labs. Engineers spend two weeks with threat researchers in their first year, watching real tradecraft rather than reading about it.
  • Pay bands are published internally. Levels, ranges and promotion criteria are visible to every Guardian from day one.

Benefits

The package, stated plainly

Benefits vary slightly by country because local law and local markets differ. What follows is the global floor — every Guardian gets at least this, everywhere.

Equity for every employee

Every Guardian receives restricted stock units on joining, refreshed annually. We publish the strike price, the current 409A valuation and a plain-English explanation of what your grant is actually worth.

Health cover, family included

Fully funded medical, dental and vision for you and your dependants in every country we employ, with no waiting period and no exclusion for pre-existing conditions where law permits.

Remote-first, genuinely

Work from anywhere in the country where you are employed, plus up to 60 days a year working from another Guardian country. Team offsites twice a year, fully funded, so distance never becomes distrust.

Learning budget that gets used

$4,000 per year for conferences, courses and certifications, plus paid exam time. Guardian covers OSCP, CISSP, cloud architecture and SANS-equivalent tracks in full, including the retake.

20 weeks parental leave

Twenty weeks fully paid for every new parent regardless of gender or route to parenthood, taken flexibly across the first two years, with a phased return at 80% hours on full pay for a month.

Sabbatical at five years

Six paid weeks on your fifth anniversary and every five years after. Taken as one block — the point is a genuine disconnection, not a longer holiday.

Home setup and connectivity

A $2,500 home-office allowance refreshed every three years, a monthly connectivity stipend, and hardware of your choosing — including the second monitor nobody should have to justify.

Real support for on-call

Paid on-call rotation capped at one week in six, a mandatory recovery day after any P1 page, and confidential counselling for anyone working sustained incident response. Burnout is treated as a system failure.

Retirement and long-term security

Employer pension or 401(k) contribution of 6% with no matching requirement, life assurance at four times salary, and income protection from day one.

Hiring process

Five steps, roughly eighteen days, no surprise assignments

You will know the full process, the interviewers and the evaluation criteria before the first call. We do not run unpaid take-home projects longer than three hours, and we give a decision within two business days of the final stage.

Application review

A recruiter and the hiring manager read every application. No keyword filter decides your outcome, and we do not require a cover letter. If your background is unconventional, tell us in three sentences why it maps to the role — that is the whole application.

Recruiter conversation

Thirty minutes covering the role, the team, the process and — before you ask — the salary band and equity range for your level and location. We share it unprompted on this call, every time.

Hiring manager interview

Sixty minutes on the craft: how you have detected, built, sold or supported something hard, and what you would have done differently. We are looking for specific, first-hand detail rather than framework recital.

Working session

Two to three hours pairing with the team on a genuine Guardian problem — a detection gap, an architecture trade-off, a customer objection, a documentation rewrite. No algorithm puzzles, no unpaid weekend project, no whiteboard theatre.

Team and values conversation

Two Guardians from outside the hiring team assess how you make decisions, handle disagreement and escalate risk. Then a decision within two business days, with written feedback either way.

Adjustments are normal, not exceptional. Tell your recruiter what you need — extra time, written questions in advance, a different format, a quieter setting — and we will arrange it without asking you to justify it or disclose anything you would rather keep private.

Open roles

Ten positions open right now

Every listing shows the location, the department and the working pattern. Salary bands are shared on the first call — always, without you having to ask.

In their words

What Guardians say about the work

I came from a SOC where every shift started with 900 open alerts. Here I spend my time writing detections for tradecraft that has never been published. The first time one of mine caught a live intrusion at a hospital, I sat down for a minute.

Ines Kowalski
Detection Engineer, Guardian Labs — London

The written-first thing sounded like corporate theatre until I joined from Singapore. I have never once had a decision made in a meeting I could not attend. That is worth more to me than any benefit on the list.

Wei Tan
Staff Engineer, Cloud Runtime — Singapore

My first year included two weeks embedded with Guardian Labs. I had shipped security software for six years before that and had never watched an adversary work in real time. It changed how I write code.

Mateo Brenner
Senior Software Engineer, Platform — Munich
Equal opportunity, in practice Guardian hires on evidence of capability. We use structured interviews with published criteria, anonymised work samples where practical, and a diverse panel on every loop. We do not ask for salary history anywhere we operate.
