Leadership

The operators and researchers behind Guardian

Guardian's executive team has collectively run security operations for banks, hospitals, grid operators and hyperscale clouds — and has been on the receiving end of enough breach calls to be impatient with anything that does not shorten the defender's clock.

Operating model

Six principles that decide how this company runs

Guardian is a distributed company defending customers in every time zone. That only works if leadership is legible: decisions written down, owners named, escalation encouraged rather than punished.

Every executive publishes a quarterly operating charter — what their organisation is accountable for, what it will deliberately not do this quarter, and which metrics they expect to be judged on. Those charters are visible to every Guardian on day one, and they are the reference point in every review.

  • Written first. Proposals are read as documents before they are discussed, so the loudest voice never wins by default.
  • One accountable owner. Shared accountability is unaccountability with better manners.
  • Escalate early. Raising a risk is never a performance event. Concealing one is.
How Guardian leads Written first Documents beat meetings One accountable owner Named, not implied Measure what ships Not what is planned Assume the adversary Threat model your own work Teach, then delegate Context before authority Escalate early Bad news travels fastest Every executive publishes a quarterly operating charter against these six principles.

Executive team

Ten people accountable for Guardian

Between them they have defended payment networks, national health systems, transmission grids and hyperscale clouds. Seven have carried a pager.

MR

Marcus Reyes

Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer

Marcus spent eleven years in security operations before founding Guardian, latterly running incident response for a payments processor handling 40 billion transactions a year. He wrote the post-incident review that became Guardian's founding thesis. He still joins the SOC bridge for every customer-declared critical incident, and reads every renewal loss report personally.

AO

Dr. Amara Osei

Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer

Amara holds a doctorate in distributed systems and spent four years building anomaly detection for tier-1 network operators. She designed the behavioural graph that lets Sentinel resolve a process, a session and an API call to the same entity in under a millisecond. She chairs Guardian's model-safety review board and personally signs off every autonomous action class.

PR

Priya Raghunathan

Co-founder & Chief Product Officer

Priya shipped security products into regulated banking for a decade before Guardian, which is why every automated action in Sentinel carries an evidence trail and a rollback. She owns product, design and technical documentation, and insists that no capability ships until a customer risk committee could approve it without a phone call.

DW

Daniel Whitcombe

Chief Financial Officer

Daniel joined in 2021 from a listed infrastructure software company where he ran finance through an IPO and two acquisitions. At Guardian he built the unit economics model that ties every engineering investment to retained revenue, and he leads the audit committee relationship with our external assurance providers.

SM

Sofia Marchetti

Chief Revenue Officer

Sofia leads global sales, channel and revenue operations across 24 offices. She joined Guardian in 2020 after building the EMEA enterprise business at a network security vendor from nine people to 400. She is unusually strict about one thing: no Guardian seller may promise a capability that is not in general availability today.

KN

Kenji Nakamura

Chief Information Security Officer

Kenji defends Guardian itself. He previously ran security engineering for a hyperscale cloud provider's control plane and, before that, the SOC at a national telecommunications carrier. He is the internal customer for every Sentinel release: if a capability cannot survive Guardian's own red team, it does not reach yours.

NH

Nadia Haddad

Chief People Officer

Nadia scaled Guardian from 300 to 1,900 people without abandoning written operating charters or structured, evidence-based hiring. She designed the Guardian Labs rotation that puts every new engineer alongside threat researchers in their first year, and she publishes the company's pay bands and promotion criteria internally in full.

TB

Thomas Bergström

SVP, Guardian Labs

Thomas runs Guardian's 140-person research organisation, which tracks 340 named adversary groups and publishes new detection logic to customer tenants within hours. He spent nine years in national CERT work in the Nordics and still authors the annual Threat Landscape Report, including the parts that are inconvenient for vendors.

GA

Grace Adeyemi

General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer

Grace owns legal, privacy and regulatory affairs. She built Guardian's data residency architecture with engineering rather than around it, and authored the lawful-access policy that governs how Guardian responds to government requests. She publishes the company's annual transparency report and defends its exceptions in front of customers.

RM

Ravi Menon

Chief Customer Officer

Ravi leads customer success, support and professional services, including the managed detection and response practice with its three-minute triage SLA. He joined from a healthcare technology group where he ran a 24/7 operations organisation across nine countries, and he owns Guardian's 96% gross retention number end to end.

The job of this leadership team is not to be right more often than our customers' security teams. It is to make sure that when we are wrong, they find out quickly, can see exactly what happened, and can undo it. Every other commitment we make is downstream of that one.

Board of advisors

Independent counsel from people who have run the risk

Guardian's advisory board meets quarterly and is deliberately weighted towards practitioners rather than investors. Advisors receive no revenue-linked compensation and are barred from selling Guardian products.

Patricia Alvarado

Former Deputy Commander, National Cyber Defence Command

Patricia spent 28 years in military and national cyber defence, latterly leading a joint command responsible for protecting critical national infrastructure. She advises Guardian on public-sector deployment models, air-gapped architectures and the ethics framework governing autonomous response in regulated environments.

Prof. Henrik Lund

Chair of Applied Cryptography, Nordic Institute of Technology

Henrik's research on key management for distributed systems underpins Guardian's customer-managed encryption design. He reviews the platform's cryptographic architecture annually and has twice recommended changes that delayed a release — both of which shipped.

Yuki Tanaka

Former Group CISO, international airline alliance

Yuki ran security for an airline group spanning 14 carriers, 400 airports and a sprawling operational technology estate. She advises on multi-tenant governance, merger integration and the practical limits of automation in safety-critical operations.

Dr. Amina Farouk

Former Chief Information Officer, national health service provider

Amina led technology for a health system serving 21 million patients through a major ransomware event and its recovery. She advises Guardian on healthcare deployment, clinical continuity and the design of containment playbooks that must never interrupt patient care.

David Okonkwo

Founder and former CEO, enterprise data platform

David built and sold a data infrastructure company serving 3,000 enterprises. He advises on platform architecture at scale, open API strategy and the discipline of saying no to acquisitions — including two he talked Guardian out of.

Charles Beaumont

Operating Partner, Northstar Growth Partners

Charles has taken nine enterprise software companies from early revenue to global scale. He chairs Guardian's compensation committee and works with the executive team on international expansion sequencing and go-to-market productivity.

Governance

Who oversees what

Guardian's board operates four standing committees. The Security & Trust Committee is unusual for a private company of our size — it exists because our customers' risk committees asked for it.
